These are recipes shared with us by refugees and asylum seekers as part of our Refugee Kitchen project.

This is a new project aimed at sharing recipes from people’s home countries and tackling the poor diet of some asylum seekers, particularly those who are isolated or don’t have access to a kitchen in their accommodation.Food and isolation
Asylum Seekers are often unable to cook for themselves, either because they lack the money or access to cooking equipment or because they do not know how, lacking knowledge of cookery and British food. Eating takeaway-food alone in their bedsits where once they would have eaten home-cooked food with their families only serves to compound depression and isolation. Others need to share their recipes from home as part of their cultural integration.
Refugee recipes
Our Refugee Kitchen project involves the participatory production of radio cook-along shows in community kitchens and the distribution of these audio recordings so people can listen to them on CD, radio, internet or on their mobile phones as they follow the recipes at home. The audio nature of these recordings is especially valuable to people who are less able to read or write English.
