We match volunteers with refugees and asylum seekers who want to work together on their own radio programme to tell us about their lives.

This project is just being piloted at the moment as is very new but the results are encouraging.

Project model

The project matches volunteer mentors with asylum seekers and refugees for a fixed period of several months to work together on a structured collaborative radio-based activity. The volunteers are screened and referenced and have ongoing supervision.

The pairs work together to produce a devised radio piece to help foster cross-cultural relationships, reduce isolation and boost the mentee’s confidence. Our mentors have all reported improvements in confidence, empowerment and English language skills amongst the beneficiaries.
